Our Volunteers
The Keepers is a volunteer-led organisation and we are lucky enough to have over 120 amazing volunteers.
Each one brings joy to the community and plays a vital part in keeping The Keepers running.
Our Volunteering Roles
-
Reception Volunteer
Our reception volunteers are often the first friendly face you’ll see when you walk through our doors. From sharing what’s on, to making teas and coffees, doing the washing up, and setting up rooms for our visiting groups, they do it all with warmth and dedication.
-
Kitchen Volunteer
Our kitchen volunteers do everything food related. They batch cook meals for our community freezer and Tuesday lunches, help with the washing up, and keep everything in line with kitchen health and safety standards. They’re a vital part of making sure we can provide good and nutritious food to the community.
-
Garden Volunteer
Our garden volunteers grow the flowers that brighten our tables and the vegetables that go into our freezer meals, Tuesday lunches, and crop share table. Whether they're planting, weeding or harvesting, they’re nurturing wellbeing for themselves and the whole community.
-
Cafe Volunteer
Our café servers serve cake and teas or coffees at our Wednesday and Friday café visitors, helping to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Our café listeners take a seat at the table offering friendly conversation and a listening ear to anyone who needs it.
-
Befriending Volunteer
Our befriending volunteers visit older adults who aren’t able to get out and about, offering regular company and conversation in their homes. Whether it’s over a cuppa, a game of cards or just a good chat, they help brighten someone’s week.
-
Driving Volunteer
Our driving volunteers make it possible for people to get to the hub for Tuesday lunches, the café, and other activities when they otherwise couldn’t. They’re also starting to offer lifts to local appointments and events, helping people stay connected and independent.
-
Keepers Kidz and Keepers Tots Volunteer
Our Keepers Kidz and Keepers Tots volunteers help run our playgroups by singing songs, playing with the children, and creating a fun, welcoming space for local families. They also lend a hand with setting up and tidying away to keep everything running smoothly.
-
Cake Maker Volunteer
Our cake baking volunteers bake delicious homemade treats for our weekly cafés and fundraising events like Town Hall Teas and Tortworth Lake. Their contributions ensures we always have fresh, tasty cakes to share with the community.
-
Ad Hoc Volunteer
Our ad hoc volunteers help by picking up essential ingredients and supplies from the shops to keep our kitchen stocked and running smoothly. Their flexibility and support make it possible for us to keep everything on track as needs arise.
-
Out of Hours Volunteer
Our out of hours volunteers are responsible for managing the space when the hub is closed but groups still need to use it, for example for our Spanish class or Cancer Support group. They sign people in, unlock and set up the space, and make sure everything is cleared away and securely locked up afterward.
-
Duke of Edinburgh Volunteer
Our Duke of Edinburgh volunteers assist wherever needed, contributing to various tasks across the hub. Their flexibility and enthusiasm support our activities and help maintain a vibrant community space.
